Not necessarily — egress windows are legally required only in any basement bedroom
or sleeping area, not in a basic finish. If your project does call for a
bedroom or legal living space, the window opening has to meet specific code
minimums: at least 20 inches wide, 24 inches tall, 5.7 square feet of net clear
opening, and no more than 44 inches from the floor to the sill.
